One of my favorite things to do here at ARTifacts is for vendors to move to new spots. It amazings me what changes can happen with the same vendor moving to a new location within the shop. Here is an example of a couple of those changes. Libby’s Nook and Cranny has made some major changes – and is making more – right now she is having a 50% off sale in her NEW booth to make room for new ideas!

Lily’s Collectible and Creatable has moved to a new spot too – so you can see more clearly the goodies she has for us all! If you like to create, Lily finds all kinds of goodies for you and sells them at great prices.

Simplifying has become a trend for these vendors featured today. Relative Collections is no exception. They have moved their booth around and are having a sale on many items to clear away the little items to make a new focus in their space.

Jo just added this amazing set of china to her booth a couple days ago. It is a fantastic set, that is just lovely and would make an amazing wedding gift or anniversary gift – for that matter – an anytime gift is always good too!

Here is a tidbit of what I have learned about Royal Kent China -

Royal Kent Exquisite European porcelain china patterns carefully handcrafted by experts in Walbrzych Poland.The original molds for the china made in Poland were designed by highly skilled Jews while in the concentration camps during World War Two. Advent Calendar Workshop

Their ever changing style is always fun to experience, but they have consistantly offered the ARCHITECTURAL ALPHABET photography for Downtown Clarksville to our customers. you can purchase letters one by one, or place a special order for any word up to 11 letters. Artist Gabriele Wardiener and Gail Meyer have both been with ARTifacts since we opened 4 years ago. We are blessed to have two such talented and devoted artists as part of our artist community.

Gabriele, a gifted artist, has art of all mediums and styles. From oils, to pencil work – to mixed media pieces to repurposed greeting cards for all occassions. It is easy to find something to take home with you in Gabriele’s booth. You never lack for ideas or choice in this fantastic booth.

Gail Meyer, an extrodinairy popular Clarksville artist is well known for her pieces both of the downtown and the Roxy buildings – but of late, the surge of excitement (we felt up here anyway) with the umbrella series she has been working on. Most are sold and on the walls of art lovers as I am typing this – but there are a couple still available, along with other of her beautiful works of art.

There is a surge the last several years to focus on buy local. I have always held true that this is a very difficult thing to do when you get started, but gets easier with time and knowledge.

This year I have seen the surge change from shopping local, to now shopping local and handmade. In the coming days, I am going to feature each and everyone one of my amazing vendors, and show you how easy it is to support local artists, artisans and businesses by shopping these amazing local people with something as simple as starting your holiday shopping here.

Did you know, to be a vendor at ARTifacts, you must live locally??

Under that understanding, let me introduce you to ARTifacts, an Arts & Antiques Emporium. And please those of you who have already found us, please share with your friends, family, and anyone you come into contact with. Honestly, the alternative, that we only have Wal-Mart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and other canned stores as our only options – is just too depressing to consider, but you should. Small businesses can not survive with out your support.

Check out the program 3/50 project for more information about what you can do to make a difference. They are small changes, that you won’t even notice – but small businesses will definitely feel the change!

ARTifacts is a place where many people have tested out their merchandising ideas, skill, product, etc – and expanded on to open a business of their very own with their own storefront (some are right down the street!!)

Workshops Galore!

We are working on keeping you busy this holiday season with all kinds of classes and shopping. The shopping of course is downtown at ARTifacts – the workshops are all coming together, here are a few you have to look forward too!

BURLAP WREATH & BANNER
Kendall will teach you how to make a burlap wreath and Paige will teach you how to make an Autumn banner--using, of course, burlap!

This event will take place Nov 10th at 6:00 P.M. With a cost of only $45 for both projects--you'll go home with great decor for your door and hearth.

Kimberly Santiago, our resident Mixed Media Artist, is getting together a few classes.

“PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE” & “TWO TURTLE DOVES” MIXED MEDIA

The Partridge in a Pear Tree mixed media class will be November 17th at 10:30 am. This class is only $25.

Two Turtle Doves (picture coming soon) will be offered twice. Nov. 30th at 10:30am, or Dec. 6th at 6:30.

Then as a final trick up Kimberly’s sleeve would be a Holiday Mixed Media Art workshop. Pencil that in for Dec 12th at 6:30pm.

Want to duplicate a look you saw in a magazine? You know – the painted kitchen cabinets—the aged and distressed furniture- those lovely painted picture frames. You can do it yourself and the finishes are amazing! Wear your painting clothes and come prepared to jump right into the fun. Bring a picture frame or framed mirror from home to use as your paint project. Josh McDougall–Featured Artist

Josh McDougall Artist Statement
The craft of the portrait, the process required to capture the essence of a person, has been a lifelong fascination of mine. Over the last 4 years I have used hand cut stencils and spraypaint to render the likeness of a person.

The creation of a stencil is a complicated process which involves a combination of photography, digital, drawing & hours of x-acto knifing. The end result is a blend of my hand drawn style meeting the unpredictable element of spraypaint.
Creating the likeness of someone using this design process brings me a personal satisfaction which is unmatched by other mediums. I can pull on my favorite experiences in graphic design, experimental methods for screenprinting and illustrative drawing to influence a stencil. The method allows a flexibility which lends itself well to generating custom portraits for clients. Any old photograph can be remembered as a uniquely stylized portrait using this technique.

My Mom has a vintage rocking chair that was ours when we were little, and I think of it each time I walk by this rocking chair in Darin’s booth. What a great gift for a kid! Heirloom.

You can’t see it in this photo, but this is lite up with a bulb inside the box, shining softly through the fabric. Really pretty!

Back in the saddle again…

Well, I am home. It has been a rough couple of weeks for my Mom, sisters and I, but we are back in TN now and ready for the fall season. Thanks to everyone who shared their prayers during this rough time for the Thomas Family. We appreciate it more than you will even know.

And of course, I can’t go on without saying how grateful I am to Crystal who kept the shop running. While she didn’t have easy access to the blog to keep those of you who watch the blog informed – she was able to keep our Facebook page updated amazingly well! THANKS TO CRYSTAL FOR EVERYTHING!!! You are my rock!

Didn’t know we have a Facebook page? We do! And it is perfect for uploading our just arrived items quick and fast! If you don’t watch it yet, you really should (just ask Taylor E. who shops often via our Facebook page – and comes running in as soon as she sees something she can’t live without and gets first dibs! It is the way to go, I tell ya!

Featured Artist–Patsy Dollar

When asked about her art, here is what Patsy Dollar shared: This year has been very eventful for me as I pursue my art and the expression of it.

I have moved into different mediums of expression and not been as active in others. This show is titled “Multifaceted Perceptions by the Loose Potter”.

In this presentation I have attempted to show my growth within by presenting art that is as multifaceted as I am.

New examples of Face Pots with more abstractions, and free form faces that peer out at you, and the addition of Crystalline glazes to add depth to the perceptions of art forms and their functionality.

Also this year I am introducing experiments with charcoal and pastel chalks as well as acrylics. I have also brought 2 dimensional art forms into my experience.

Weiss Rhinestones

What do you know about Weiss? Before working here, I had never even heard of Weiss. Here are a few things I have learned since:

Albert Weiss founded Weiss jewelry in the year 1942. Mr. Weiss was experienced with costume jewelry, as he had spent some time at Coro.
Mr. Weiss designed most of the jewelry that bears his name. his company operated from 1942 through to 1971, when it finally shut down. Unfortunately, many of the great costume jewelry companies closed their doors about this time, due to the jewelry styles changing so much. Hence, Weiss jewelry falls very much into the "most desireable" costume jewelry years.
Weiss jewelry is know for both classic looks and for loads of wonderful, excellent-quality rhinestones. The jewelry was well-made and has stood the test of time. –Source.

What I do know is that the pieces that Jo’s Antiques has collected, and has for sale at ARTifacts are exquisite. And right now, she has this bracelet, valued at over $350 a couple of years ago, is now on sale!

Even the clasp on this bracelet is amazing! Here are the details about this lovely piece:

Great art design, signed Weiss. Excellent craftsmanship, with a total of 234 clear stones: 216 stones of 1/4 carat each, foil back designs, 12 step cut, long clear baguettes, 6 more rhinestones on the claps, with safety chain. Bracelet is 8 stones wide (1 1/2”), 7 1/2” long, with clasp. Believed to be 40’s or 50’s product. The design has 3 series of 8 rows of the 1/4 carat stone divided by 2 rows of the baguette stones which are 1/4 inches long and 1/8 inches wide each. (6 across each row). I found this lovely bracelet at an auction in Florida.

Sew Sweet Child has totally changed up her booth, the dresses with all new fabrics and styles. Love this new collection – especially this new sweet skirt! I love it! This is the first one, but she said she has more on the cutting table already – so cute!!

Some Fine Things joined us a bit over a month ago, and I am still sharing their pieces with you all! These paintings of hands (aptly named “Hand” and “Other Hand” hee hee) are so cool! Can’t really explain what I like, but they are just COOL!

Hard to get a photo of this one. This silver and glass hurricane lamp are gorgeous! There is etching on the glass and on the silver. So pretty!

Horsefeathers Gifts (new to us as of last week!!) has this vintage frame repurposed with a chalkboard. LOVE IT!

In her artist statement, Eunice, said “she is drawn to the simplicity of silk and its ability to ebb and flow in mysterious ways once the brush loaded with silk dye touches the silk. I just go with the flow, letting the colors model the shapes and rhythms of each piece.”
